Days 1-5 with Fritzi and Di

Well we are certainly on the way and hoped that we would have some warmer weather but that will come on Day 6. We left Adelaide around 11.30am on Monday after Reggie and Glenys gave us a wonderful brunch send off with village friends and we arrived in Pt Augusta for our 1st night. We were a bit saddened that Elizabeth and Kevin couldnt make the start of the trip with us due to Kevin having a heart by-pass just 2 weeks ago but hopefully they will join us down the track!!Day 2 we travelled to Coober Pedy via Pimba, Glendambo and a couple of other pit stops, Petrol in Pimba was 151.9, Glendambo 146.0 and Coober Pedy 144.9 but it gets worse. On Day 3 we had a long trip to Alice Springs..some 705k's and we stayed at the Heritage CP which was OK but very crammed in. Ex facilities. Marla 157.0 litre Erldunda 171.0 and Alice 142.9 thanks to our Woolies "docket". But we are not complaining as you need the juice to travel anyway!!!! Day 4 in Alice was supposed to be a rest and catch up at the shops etc and visit Lorraine Bennett (from our village) brother and his wife for a cuppa in the afternoon. Well Di whilst eating her lunch experienced violent pains in a tooth and so we decided to contact Lorraines sister-in-law to find out who her dentist was. After a phone call to the dentist Di was able to get in at 3pm and the dentist found that she had an abscess forming and so had the tooth cleaned out and antibiotics injected in. The tooth has settled down and hopefully will be OK until we get home. Incidentally the dentist was Justin O'Loughlin from Glengowrie in SA and came to Alice some 30 years ago and he knew me from my sporting days. Small world eh! Day 5 we have travelled some 515k's to Tennant Creek and the park here "The Outback" is very good. We went to a camfire tea tonight to listen to bush poetry from "Jimmy"(aboriginal) who has been here for past 40 years, We had fresh damper and wild lemon stick billy tea. It was superb and plenty of stories were told around the fire. Temp tonight expected to be minus 1.
We leave here tomorrow (Sat) for the warmer weather at Daly Waters and Katherine before we go to Kakadu from Mon-Sat and then Darwin from June 19-26. Have not seen a newspaper since we left. Will keep in touch from Kakadu. On the road with Fritzi and Di
